On June 6, 2013, I explored part of the Rancho La Costa Habitat Conservation Area on foot. I was led to this area by a recent Roam-O-Rama article in the San Diego Reader. I found the article useful, although I explored more trails than the ones described in the article.

The trailhead on Camino Junípero is at N 33 4.997 W 117 13.290, elevation 435 feet. The summit is at N 33 5.242 W 117 12.851, elevation 1059 feet.

The topographic map of this area is out-of-date, and does not show many of the streets. Even some of the streets that are shown have been re-routed. Hence I found it necessary to survey some of the streets, as well as the trails.

Examination of the map after the survey shows that I probably wandered outside the preserve boundary at the end of the survey.

Signage in this preserve is extensive, but confusing in many places.
