On May 7, 2011, I participated in "botanizing trip" to Lake Calavera with Tom Chester, an amateur botanist who blogs on a Web site of his own at www.tchester.org.

I had surveyed this area on two previous occasions, first on March 21, 2010 and again on June 14, 2010. The marked-up topo includes markings from those two previous trips. I noticed some new trails, or at least some newly signed trails, including one to the nearby Oak Riparian Park.

We entered Calavera Lake Preserve from a trailhead near the intersection of Tamarack Ave. and Strata Dr. This is one of a number of possible entry points.

The principal purpose of the trip, from my point of view, was to survey the trail along the east side of the lake.
