For years, I have been hiking and surveying the trails and fire roads of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, with an eye to preparing a more detailed trail map than the one now available. The Cedar Fire of 2003 interrupted this work. A possible park closure in 2009 may interrupt it again!

This survey includes mainly the West Mesa and Monument Trails in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

On the Airplane Ridge, two large birds (probably hawks or buzzards) flew rather low overhead, apparently riding on updrafts near the ridge. I got a couple of hastily-shot pictures. The survey was otherwise uneventful.

Latitude and longitude readings on some trails were omitted from the survey because they were previously surveyed.
