survey of some trails in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park July 4, 2009 NB on Highway 79 through Cuyamaca Rancho State Park parking area at S end of park is signed as Oakzanita mileage here is 4.3 mile marker 3.5 at 4.6 4.7 East Mesa parking area mile marker 4.0 at 5.1 Green Valley Park at 5.3 mile marker 4.5 at 5.6 Sweetwater parking area at 6.0 I park here and set out on foot I first follow Harvey Moore Trail junction with East Side Trail 0.14 miles 54-515-34-437 I turn R onto East Side Trail 510-444 475-524 469-549 491-558 514-593 493-595 472-650 422-657 353-702 293-740 269-756 201-742 155-784 54-147-34-794 cutoff to R going to C-79, I turn R 148-803! trail emerges on highway, no signs here, end of this part, I turn around back at junction [54-147-34-794], there are two trail signs here the entrance is just a little S of entrance to Green Valley Park I continue S on East Side Trail mileage here 0.84 [it was reset to 0.00 at parking area] the cutoff location is most easily recognized as the lowest point on the trail in this area 101-802 35-801 977-811 942-807 898-808 868-799 817-761 793-736 758-735 trail emerges next to the East Mesa parking are 53-714-34-719! junction with East Side Trail, I turn R and stop calling lat/lon 4.59 miles 55-481-33-512 L on Cold Stream Trail and I start calling lat/lon 483-518 466-536 454-539 426-557 55-442-33-564-stream stream crossing [Sweetwater River] 450-582 464-595 493-599 515-617 543-627 corrals and a parking area to my R, search and rescue vehicle and a few other official vehicles parked here [I walk off the trail to get some pictures and then return to the trail] 545-639 567-645 584-655 611-650 656-647 cutoff to R to Dyar parking, mileage here 5.01, I turn R 55-686-33-613 the trail emerges in a parking area, I turn R and walk around it [counter-clockwise] 669-611 666-609 continuation road from here 691-605 interpretive bulletin board marking this as Dyar House Trailhead 693-607 last corner, connect to entry point [55-686-33-613!], end of this part I stop here and eat my lunch at a picnic table next to the Visitor Center I re-enter the Cold Stream Trail at 5.29 miles [656-647], and continue N 678-646 55-708-33-632, 5.35 miles, I cross the access road to the parking area, visitor center and school camp on the N side of the road, bicycles are allowed on Cold Stream Trail 727-630 745-610 813-615 882-625 numbered posts along this trail suggest that it is an interpretive trail 938-621 960-612 28-606 fork in the trail, I turn L 42-604! trail ends at a very pleasant, shaded area under a large tree, end of this part, I turn around back at the fork [28-606] I continue on the trail 56-42-33-588! 5.79 miles, connector to Upper Gren Valley Fire Road to the R no no-bikes signs here I continue on Cold Stream Trail and stop calling lat/lon because it's already been surveyed cutoff to West Mesa parking, and the trail that I was on is signed for bicycle use trail farther N is signed for no bicycles I go through the West Mesa parking area and cross C-79 miles here 6.37 my GPS has also lost satellite reception, I sit down and wait for it to clear 56-418-33-965 I enter West Mesa FR 414-980 West Side Trail R signed for no bicycles, also West Side Trail to my L, a little bit overgrown, I turn L and go S on West Side Trail this part is not signed for no bicycles [or for bicycles] 406-977 366-936 332-895 316-861 272-848 250-827 230-819 220-821 201-805 163-791 147-799 141-791 114-787 104-782 91-779 69-770 11-771 988-771 close enough to C-79 here to just walk over to it 962-770 929-787 911-791 905-778 882-771 856-774 841-773 829-783 807-783 782-808 720-822 661-861 623-876 606-882 590-880 55-571-33-894, 7.63 miles, connector to C-79 to L the trail that I am coming from is signed for no bocycles West Side Trail to the S is signed for bicycles I turn L 573-876 573-852 575-833 55-578-33-825! path kind of peters out near some rocks, beyond I can see a FR [probably Japacha FR], end of this part, I turn around it was a path at one time, because it shows signs of path construction [singed water bars, obviously installed before the 2003 fire] back on the trail [957-314], I continue S 927-317 917-334 910-352 912-378 54-920-34-390! 9.09 miles, junction with Japacha FR, I turn L and stop calling lat/lon FR veers L, I continue on West Side Trail SA, 9.22 miles at junction, mountain bikes are allowed on this part of the trail, too 9.28 miles, 54-778-34-466, fork in the trail, connector to C-79 to L West Side Trail continues SA and no bicycle are allowed on it I veer L onto the connector 742-457 726-454 54-688-34-467 junction, R is connector to West Side Trail S no bikes, SA is a horse trail that goes down to the river and under the bridge [carrying C-79 over the river], L is a short connector to the highway, I turn L 687-449!
